Tourist Places In and Around Sahibganj

Rajmahal

On the banks of Ganga River, lies the beautiful town of Rajmahal which is a the beautiful town and holds immense historical importance. As per the historians, Rajmahal was made seat of governance by Raja Man Singh. In 1592, Raja Man Sigh declared Rajmahal as the capital of Bengal. Even today remnants of the beautiful architecture of the bygone era are visible in the town. Here one can find several significant monuments which in itself are examples of excellent creations. Some of the monuments here include Tomb of Miran, Akbari Masjid, Singhi Dalan and Tomb of Maina Bibi.

Mangalhat

On the western side of Rajmahal, at a distance of 10kms lies the beautiful and historical monument of Jama Masjid . Built in 1592 AD during the rule of Emperor Akbar, the architecture of Jama Masjid is truly excellent. The skilful carvings on the walls of the Masjid exhibit the taste of the Mughals. The architecture consists of a giant hall for prayers and a long courtyard over viewing the same. The ambiance of the Masjid brings peace of mind which attracts many devotees.

Kanaiya Sthan

Situated in the north western side of Rajmahal town at a distance of 13km from the heart of the town this is a small yet beautiful village set on the river bed of River Ganga. The importance of the village apart from its scenic excellence is the fact that it has an ancient temple of Lord Krishna which is considered to be one of the pious destinations in the district. Even the name of the town was derived from this temple. Another religious significance is that according to the devotees, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu while on his way to Brindavan, settled here for some time and this is where he saw Lord Krishna.

Bhagwa –Kuan

Located in the heart of Sahibganj town, Bhagwa –Kuan is a well constructed way back during the British era. With huge significance of the British rule this huge well was built in memory of Edward VII.

Teliagarhi

Located near the Karamtola station this is also a site having the remnants of old Teliagarhi fort.

Shivgadi

Located at a distance of 8kms north of Barhait, there is a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva but based inside a cave. Being one of the popular religious destination many travelers visit here and Mahashivratri is celebrated in a big way before this temple.

Binduvasini Temple

At a distance of 2km from the famous Barharwa railway station, there lies the spectacular Binduvasini Temple. On the pious occasion of Ramnabami, huge devotees come here to offer prayers for their well being. A grand celebration with nine day long fair is organized during this time before the temple

Raksisthan

In Mandro block, on the western side of Teliagarhi fort lies the fascinating temple called as Raksisthan and visited by many devotees. The place is very close to Karamtola railway station.

Udhwa Bird Sanctuary

One of the best tourist spots of Jharkhand, this is the only bird sanctuary in the entire state. Much popular for its scenic beauty, flora and fauna, this sanctuary is located near Udhwa also referred as Patauda Lake, by the locals. The main attraction of this place is its unlimited collection of migratory and local birds majorly seen during the winter season. Moti Jharna
